Dr. Shane Spittler
Your Orangeburg Optometrist
Dr. Spittler, originally from Norfolk, Nebraska, was a Naval Corpman and served active duty with the United States Marines starting in 1986. He served for four and a half years where he received numerous awards and citations. He then went on to Wayne State College in Wayne, NE where he earned a B.S. in Chemistry and a minor in Physics in 1994. He attained his Doctor of Optometry in 1998 from the Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago, IL. Dr. Spittler completed an externship at the Veteran’s Administration Medical Center in White River Junction, VT. At the VA Medical Center, he extensively trained with the diagnosis and management of ocular diseases and he earned the Vermont Clinical Excellence Award. Dr. Spittler then went on to the Friends and Family Health Center in Chicago, IL where he provided vision care for pediatric patients. While at the Illinois Center for Rehabilitation and Education in Chicago he worked with patients with low vision needs to provide magnifying devices and special equipment to improve their quality of life. Dr. Spittler also practiced primary eye care and treated ocular disease at the Sidney Hillman Health Center in Chicago, IL.
Upon graduation in 1998, Dr. Spittler moved to Myrtle Beach, SC and practiced optometry for a year before he began his practice in Orangeburg, SC. Dr. Spittler sees patients ages six and up for comprehensive medical eye health exams and vision problems needing correction with glasses and contact lenses.
Dr. Spittler is a member in good standing of the Midlands Optometric Society, South Carolina Optometric Physician’s Association, and American Optometric Association. Dr. Spittler is a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and the Gills Creek Watershed Association. He serves on the Board of Directors for the Spring Lake Company, Inc. in Columbia, SC where he was Vice President 2008-2009, and President 2010-present. He also enjoys mountain biking, kayaking and spending time with his family.
